Shortly after the PMBOK Guide 2000 Edition was published the Project Management Institute created a Compendium of Project Management Practices. The compendium used the information from the 2000 Edition and provided sample electronic forms that mirrored what the PMBOK Guide said should be documented. The forms were arranged by process group and then knowledge area. It was distributed as a CD Rom and is still being sold today by PMI at a price of $89 - $129. The Compendium was developed via the research group at PMI. It was compiled by a volunteer. Though this type of information is incredibly helpful to project managers, it was never updated for the Third Edition. The proposed would revise the ‘compendium’ completely for the soon to be released PMBOK Guide 4E due our in Fall 2008. However it would be structured for easier understanding and use by those new to the field, as well as experienced project managers. The book woudl supply forms and documents necessary to the successful completion of a project according to the PMBOK Guide. It will also act as a road map of the process and show where the user is at any point in the process, and well as the forms that precede that position and those that follow it. The hard copies of the forms may be taken and reproduced directly from the book, or from the accompanying CD which will contain customizable forms for use in any organization. In addition to the road map, a robust index will provide quick access to the forms in the book and CD. The author is uniquely qualified to pull together this book not only because of her experience as a cosultant, but mainly for the reason that she acted as project manager of the PMI selected team that created the PMBOK, 4E.
