Taking as its focus the concept of transformational leadership, this text examines ways in which successful leadership can make a real difference. The authors cite two areas by which this can occur: in the first instance, this is by affecting organizational productivity, and in the second, by making a positive difference to the lives of organization members. According to the authors, successful application of these factors can transform organizations from being merely good to becoming excellent; and individuals from subordinate followers to self directed leaders.The book explores how to develop and practice transformational leadership by identifying key personal characteristics and addressing how to develop them; it shows how leaders can transform organizations by constructing culture; and it places emphasis on the leader-follower relationship, showing how it works and what can go wrong.
